About Sustainability

SUSTAINABILITY

As a brand, our purpose lies in incorporating a lens of consciousness to all our business practices. Where each policy is continuously reviewed with the best in practice and adapted and improved upon to meet our own goals of energy consumption, carbon efficiency and repurposing resources. With each new update, we are taking strides towards our sustainability goals.

WE SUPPORT PEOPLE

Guided by a carefully cultivated vision that sees sustainability as a tool of empowerment, Anita Dongre has set forth several initiatives that benefit rural women and local artisans while reviving and sustaining Indian handcrafted traditions.

For long, the primary source of income in rural India has been agriculture. As the recent years saw opportunities slowly declining in this sector, our country witnessed a wave of migration from rural to urban areas, leaving behind separated families, an impoverished economic system with women often the ones picking up the pieces of having to take care of the children and the elderly.

Opening up opportunities within the comfort of their hometown will not only help cushion financial hardships, keep families together, but also give women a seat at the decision-making table within their homes and communities.

WE SUPPORT THE PLANET

Failing to account for the present and future needs of our planet is a counterproductive business practice, according to Anita Dongre. As someone who has spearheaded the fashion industry’s transition into becoming more sustainable, Anita has helped realise many goals in adding consciousness to couture.

Our design headquarters in Navi Mumbai is housed in an eco-conscious building, which has been equipped to conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint.

OUR SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

We consciously source from companies manufacturing fabrics that are bio-degradable and come from renewable resources.

Bemberg

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global not-for-profit organisation and the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future.
TENCEL
TENCEL™ fibers originate from the renewable raw material wood created by the natural process of photosynthesis. These cellulosic fibers, manufactured using environmentally responsible processes, are biodegradable, compostable and can fully revert back to nature.

PLASTIC RECYCLING INITIATIVE

House of Anita Dongre is the first major fashion house in India to put into motion a comprehensive plastic waste management program through its partnership with Lucro Plastecycle Private Limited.

Established in 2012, Lucro specialises in recycling locally-sourced plastic waste to manufacture flexible packaging products. Through Lucro’s innovative interventions in traditional supply-chain processes, House of Anita Dongre has made a meaningful and quantifiable impact in its use and consumption of plastic.

TEXTILE WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Anita Dongre Foundation is committed to helping provide sustained employment to women through collaborations with organisations like Goonj and NEPRA, and with our local tailoring unit in Modgaon in Plaghar district.

These women help upcycle the fabric waste generated in the clothing manufacturing process into godharis, carry bags and reusable masks which later go towards the aid of people and animals in need and as items to be sold in local markets.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE

We have supported the planting of 25,000 trees for forests and wildlife as a part of Earth Day celebrations in April 2018 in collaboration with GROW-TREES.COM at Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan (India) coupled with a unique consumer engagement campaign.

OUR COMMITMENT TO FORESTS

The path towards ensuring a more sustainable planet begins with ensuring the integrity of our ancient and endangered forests. Our partnership with NGO Canopy is one such step, making fabric and packaging choices that protect our forests

WE SUPPORT ANIMAL RIGHTS

Being a vegan and an animal lover, Anita Dongre wanted her brand to reflect the same ideals that has come to shape her life. Which is why brand Anita Dongre has been fur-free and leather-free right from the start and will continue to be so in the future. The company’s commitment to these principles has also been recognised by PETA.

Ever since moving to our new headquarters in 2015, we serve only vegetarian food to our employees and guests, though we do not enforce any dietary restrictions on anyone.
